2/28/2022 Media Advisory:Senate Judiciary Committee meets tomorrow
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to meet virtually tomorrow for hearings on a variety of bills.

The meeting is scheduled tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) via WebEx.

Among the bills on the committee’s calendar are:
  • 2022-S 2402Sponsored by Sen. Hanna M. Gallo (D-Dist. 27, Cranston, West Warwick), this bill would require Senate confirmation for the appointments of the secretary of commerce and the commissioners of elementary and secondary education and postsecondary education.
  • 2022-S 2124 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown) would prohibit employers from requiring nondisclosure or non-disparagement agreements regarding alleged violations of civil rights or criminal conduct as a condition of employment.
  • 2022-S 2228 — Sponsored by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairwoman Cynthia A. Coyne (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence) lowers from 65 to 60 the minimum age of a victim for a crime to be considered exploitation of elders.
The meeting will be streamed live online by Capitol TV at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.  All public testimony for this hearing will be virtual. Written testimony can be submitted to the committee by emailing it to: slegislation@rilegislature.gov. Those who wish to provide verbal testimony to the committee virtually must register at this link by 4 p.m. today.
