2/10/2022 Media Advisory: Commission on reducing women’s incarceration to meet today with Department of Corrections director
STATE HOUSE – The Special Legislation Commission to Study Justice Reinvestment Proposals and Provide Recommendations for Reducing the Incarceration of Women will meet virtually today for a presentation by the director of the Department of Corrections.

The meeting will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 10, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. via WebEx. It will be live streamed at https://www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx, and televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15, and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.

On the agenda is an overview on incarcerated women in Rhode Island by Department of Corrections Director Patricia Coyne-Fague, who is a member of the commission. No public testimony is scheduled at this hearing.

The special commission is led by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, North Providence) and includes Sen. Ana B. Quezada (D-Dist. 2, Providence), Sen. Gordon E. Rogers (R-Dist. 21, Foster, Coventry, Scituate, West Greenwich), Center for Health and Justice Transformation Executive Director Mavis Nimoh; Roberta Richman, former warden of the Women’s Prison; Koren Carbuccia of Open Doors; Judiciary General Counsel Kathleen Kelly; Coyne-Fague; Michelle Brophy, the director of policy implementation for the Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals; Public Defender Lara Montecalvo; Parole Board Chairwoman Laura Pisaturo; Cherie Cruz of the Formerly Incarcerated Union of Rhode Island; Richard Ferruccio of the Brotherhood of Correctional Officers; Providence Police Chief Colonel Hugh T. Clements Jr.; and Kyle Pecchia representing the Attorney General’s Office.
