12/14/2021 Media Advisory: Finance committees meet Thursday to consider ARPA expenditure plan
STATE HOUSE – The House and Senate Finance committees will each meet Thursday for hearings on a revised version of the governor’s proposal to amend the FY 2022 state budget by allocating the first portion of Rhode Island’s $1.13 billion American Rescue Plan Act State Fiscal Recovery Funds.

Both committees will meet Thursday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m. The House Finance Committee will meet in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House, and the Senate Finance Committee will meet in Room 313 on the third floor.

The committees will consider an amended version of the plan the governor submitted in October, which will be made publicly available at least 24 hours prior to the hearings.

The original proposal includes $38.5 million to support services to children and families; $32 million to assist small businesses impacted by COVID-19; $29.5 million to promote affordable housing, housing stability supports and broadband planning; and $13 million for hard-hit tourism, hospitality and event industries.

Last week House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi, Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio and Gov. Dan McKee also pledged to add an additional $6 million to further enhance support for child care needs.
