MEDIA ADVISORY: Health and human services efficiency commission to meet tomorrow
|
 STATE HOUSE – The Special Legislative Commission to Review and Make Recommendations Regarding the Efficient and Effective Administration of Health and Human Services Programs in the State of Rhode Island is scheduled to meet tomorrow.
The meeting is scheduled Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. It will include presentations by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services on the Rhode Island Medicaid Program and by Jeffrey A. Meyers, the director of Healthcare Strategy at Guidehouse. Public testimony will also be accepted at this meeting.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers. It will also be live streamed at https://www.rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
The 11-member commission, led by Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Joshua Miller (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence) and established by a bill (2021-S 0985) sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Tiverton, Newport), is to review and make recommendations on how to most efficiently and effectively administer health and human services in the state, including the governance structure. The commission is to report its findings to the Senate by March 1.
The commission includes Chairman Miller; Senator DiPalma; Sen. Jessica de la Cruz (R-Dist. 23, North Smithfield, Burrillville, Glocester); Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council President and CEO Michael DiBiase; former Rhode Island Health Insurance commissioner Marie Ganim; Matthew Gunnip, president of Local 580, SEIU, AFL-CIO, RI Alliance of Social Service Employees; Tanja Kubas-Meyer, executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families; Elena Nicolella, executive director of the New England States Consortium Systems Organization; Joseph Polisena Jr., Deputy Counsel of Policy in the governor’s office; Tina Spears, government relations director at the Rhode Island Parent Information Network; and Susan A. Storti, President and CEO of the Substance Use and Mental Health Leadership Council of Rhode Island.
