MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee to meet to hear updates on COVID-19 federal funding

STATE HOUSE — The Senate Finance Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday to hear a presentation on federal COVID-19 funding updates.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House.
The Committee will receive an update from state education representatives and administration officials about the status of previously appropriated federal stimulus funds, including CARES Act, CRRSA, and appropriated American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The funds for review include directly appropriated funds as well as any direct state grants. Specific focus will be given to how the funds have been spent and the intended outcomes of spending, including adopted performance measures and plans and planning process for any remaining unspent funds, including desired outcomes and performance measures.
The Committee is expected to hear testimony from Dr. Shannon Gilkey, commissioner of postsecondary education; Dr. Marc Parlange, president, University of Rhode Island; Dr. Frank Sánchez, president, Rhode Island College; Dr. Meghan Hughes, president, Community College of Rhode Island; Ana Riley, deputy commissioner, Instructional Programs, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Kelvin Roldan, deputy commissioner, System Transformation, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; Joseph Codega, budget officer, Office of Management and Budget, Department of Administration; and Dorothy Pascale, acting director, Pandemic Recovery Office, Department of Administration.
The Senate Finance Committee is chaired by Sen. Ryan W. Pearson (D-Dist. 19, Cumberland, Lincoln).
