9/3/2021 Reps. Vella-Wilkinson, Solomon invite public to 9/11 memorial event at Oakland Beach
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Camille F.J. Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21, Warwick) and Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick) are inviting the public to attend a memorial service at the 9-11 Memorial Garden at the Oakland Beach Seawall in Warwick to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

“On this, the 20th anniversary, we still feel the sting from the events of 9/11,” said Representative Vella-Wilkinson. “Events such as these serve to bring us closer together as we honor those who fell; and it reminds us of the work we still need to do to combat terrorism around the globe.”

The event, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 11, will begin at 10:28 a.m. to commemorate the time when the second tower collapsed. The Bishop Hendricken High School Chorus has been invited to sing a musical selection. Warwick Mayor Frank J. Picozzi will speak along with Scott Avedisian, who served as mayor at the time of the terrorist attack. Judy Cobden, chairwoman of the Warwick School Committee — a 9-11 Ground Zero survivor — will also offer a few words.

For the health and safety of all, participants are strongly encouraged to wear a mask.
