8/10/2021 Rep. Ranglin-Vassell writes to Governor McKee requesting more trauma-informed and mental health services to curb violence in Providence
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Marcia Ranglin-Vassell (D-Dist. 5, Providence) has written to Governor Daniel McKee to request more compassionate trauma-informed and mental health services in Providence to curb the recent surge in violent crime.

Representative Ranglin-Vassell states in the letter, “My heart is heavy and saddened as we deal with the surge and spike in violent crimes in the city. In my 31 years of living here, I have seen violence, but never to this level. It cannot continue and I appreciate your help.  However, Providence needs a multi-pronged approach to combatting this violence. Our citizens need accessible and compassionate trauma-informed and mental health services. My community, including the uninsured and undocumented, need mental health services and support immediately.”

“I am requesting that your office works with the Department of Health to deploy more trained personnel in trauma care to our community. I am requesting that personnel trained in trauma-informed care and mental health services be assigned to do ride-alongs with officers,” said Representative Ranglin-Vassell in the letter.

Representative Ranglin-Vassell’s letter is in response to a meeting she attended with Governor McKee and members of the Rhode Island Black Business Association last week.
