6/8/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Thursday to consider several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Thursday, June 10 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to consider several bills.

Among the bills being considered are the following pieces of legislation:
  • 2021-H 5141, sponsored by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett), increases the age of children able to utilize a recorded forensic interview for cases of sexual abuse in grand jury testimony -child assault from age 14 to age 18.
  • 2021-H 5380A, sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), provides that three-wheeled motorcycles be included under the licensing requirements of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • 2021-H 5392, sponsored by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), requires initial, biennial, and continuing education in land use law and planning for local planning and zoning board members.
  • 2021-H 5614, sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), makes it a misdemeanor to possess, transfer and/or produce child erotica for the specific purpose of sexual gratification or arousal, punishable by confinement in jail for not more than one year, or fine of not more $1,000 or both.
  • 2021-H 6237A, sponsored by Rep. Jason Knight (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Warren), increases the maximum amount to be recovered in civil court action as a small claims from $2,500 to $7,000.
The State House remains closed to the public as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hearing will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.
