4/26/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Tuesday to vote on a bill relating to balloons and to hear other legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Tuesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. in the House Lounge of the State House to consider legislation (2021-H 5376) sponsored by Rep. Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth) which prohibits the release of balloons inflated with lighter-than-air gas.  The committee will consider a proposed substitute (2021-H 5376A) of the bill at the meeting.

The committee will also hear testimony on the following pieces of legislation:
  • 2021-H 6215, sponsored by Rep. Edith H. Ajello (D-Dist. 1, Providence), amends the definition of sexual orientation in regard to fair housing practices.
  • 2021-H 6235, sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), establishes a military family advocacy program to address child abuse and neglect in military families.
  • 2021-H 6237, sponsored by Rep. Jason Knight (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Warren), increases the maximum amount to be recovered in civil court action as a small claims from $2,500 to $7,000.
The State House remains closed to the public as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hearing will be televised live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channels 15 and 61, in high definition on Cox Channel 1061, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers.
