2/24/2020 Event Wednesday for bill to end animal use in physician training programs
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich, Narragansett, South Kingstown) and Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick) will hold a news conference Wednesday on their legislation to limit the use of live animals in medical training programs in Rhode Island.

The event, scheduled Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 3:30 p.m. in the House Lounge, will feature speakers from the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which supports the legislation (2020-H 7211, 2020-S 2341).

Brown University’s emergency medicine residency, which takes place at Rhode Island Hospital, is one of only a handful of emergency medical training programs in the country, and the only one in New England, that still uses animals for training doctors.
