Senator Morgan joins opposition to National Grid rate hike
|
STATE HOUSE – Senator Elaine J. Morgan, (R-Dist. 34, Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Richmond, West Greenwich), has joined the opposition to National Grid’s proposed 53 percent rate increase.
“Asking people to pay 53 percent more for their electricity is unconscionable,” Morgan said. “Many Rhode Islanders already struggle to pay their bills and simply won’t be able to bear this
Morgan said she has talked to many individuals and business owners who say the cost of such an increase will have an extremely negative effect on their day-to-day
“It is already difficult to run a business in Rhode Island,” said Morgan, who owns a dry cleaning business. “If you speak with any business owner, they will tell you that escalating utility costs are a top concern.”
Morgan said she will continue to oppose the increase and protect ratepayers in the state.
