1/13/2017 Representative Roberts assigned to several House committees, will chair Republican Policy Group

STATE HOUSE  --  Representative Sherry Roberts (R-District 29 Coventry, West Greenwich) has been named to several prestigious House Committees, including the House Judiciary Committee, the Health, Education and Welfare Committee and the Rules Committee.  Additionally, Representative Roberts has also been named Chair of the Republican Policy Group which investigates waste, fraud and abuse in the affairs of state government.

Representative Roberts said, “I am very gratified that my request to be assigned to the House Judiciary Committee was granted since I have always taken an interest in penal matters. Additionally, this committee deals with legislative matters that are especially important to the sportsman clubs located within District 29 who will greatly appreciate having me there to speak out on their behalf.”

“I was also pleased to learn that I was assigned to the Health, Education and Welfare Committee. I believe that my previous employment history from the Department of Children, Youth and Families gives me tremendous insight into the issues and challenges faced by DCYF and similar institutions. While I began working as a Secretary for DCYF, I quickly advanced to the position of a Case Aid Technician where I gained much useful experience.  I believe this hands-on experience within the inner workings of DCYF makes me the ideal candidate to understand the complex and comprehensive issues presented during Committee hearings.  I am particularly passionate about issues involving our state’s children and the elderly, all of whom I feel compelled to help,” Representative Roberts added.

Representative Roberts went on to say, “I consider being assigned to the Rules Committee a welcomed opportunity.  As a legislator, I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and the Rules Committee will keep me apprised of the many interesting rules and processes of the historic Rhode Island House Chamber.”

As Chair of the Republican Policy Group, Representative Roberts, along with her colleagues, will examine issues of public concern and work to formulate strategic plans that seek to implement better policies on the issues they plan to address within state government.
