6/30/2016 Newberry asks DOT to conduct traffic study to address speeding and safety issues on Main Street
STATE HOUSE – House Minority Leader Brian C. Newberry (R-Dist. 48, North Smithfield, Burrillville) has asked the Department of Transportation to complete a traffic study at the request of constituents concerned about speeding and safety on Main Street.

“The road curves at Silver Pines are problematic because they exacerbate the danger of speeders,” said Newberry. “After receiving a call from a concerned constituent who has young children and recently moved to the neighborhood, I thought it would be in the town’s best interest to have the area reviewed to see what can be done to address any issues.  Besides stepped up local police enforcement I am not sure what can be done but perhaps better signage, a sidewalk along the most dangerous stretch or even something in the roadway itself to deter speeding such as an elevated section might help but the traffic engineers will have a better handle on those issues.”

The DOT said it will do a site visit within the next week.
