General Assembly honors Dorian Murray by proclaiming Jan. 20 #DSTRONG Day
|
 STATE HOUSE — Dorian Murray, the 8-year-old Westerly boy suffering from untreatable cancer who became a worldwide sensation, was honored by both chambers of the General Assembly who declared Jan. 20, 2016, as #DSTRONG Day.
Senate Minority Leader Dennis L. Algiere (R-Dist. 38, Charlestown, South Kingstown, Westerly) submitted the resolution in the Senate while Rep. Brian Patrick Kennedy (D-Dist. 38, Hopkinton, Westerly) submitted the resolution in the House.
“Dorian is not just a brave little boy, said Representative Kennedy, “he’s a source of strength for anyone who has to face adversity. He has such joy, such optimism, such strength of character, it’s impossible to meet him without being moved.”
Dorian, the son of Chris and Melissa Murray, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that has spread to his spinal fluid and brain. Since a viral social media campaign revealed his wish to become famous in China, there has been an outpouring of support from him from all over the globe.
“It has been impossible not to be inspired and awed by this amazing young man,” said Leader Algiere. “In facing unimaginable adversity, Dorian has embraced life with enough zest and gusto to inspire the world.”
Posts from all over the world showing photos of “#DSTRONG” signs have been popping up all over social media from nations such as China, Australia, Italy, Syria, Brazil, Germany, Singapore, France, Rwanda and all over the United States. He has gone to Disney World and met with New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Patriots owner Robert Kraft.
