Helder J. Cunha (D) was elected in November 2016 to represent District 64 in East Providence. He is a member of both the House Committee on Labor and the House Committee on Small Business.
During the 2017 legislative session, Representative Cunha introduced legislation that would provide an income tax credit up to $500 for a property owner whose primary residence is located in a municipality having a water or sewer rate calculated above the statewide average for such utilities. He also introduced legislation that would provide an income tax credit of 25% of an elderly resident taxpayers primary residence water and sewer bills, not to exceed $250.
Representative Cunha previously served on the East Providence City Council from 2012 to 2016, where he served as Assistant Mayor from 2014 to 2016.
He is a member of the Centro Cultural de Santa Maria and is a small business owner. He is a graduate of East Providence High School.
Representative Cunha was born on January 5, 1977. He is married to Sandra and they have three children, Arianna, Jocelyn, and Roman.
