Rep. Williams named chairwoman of House Labor Committee
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Anastasia P. Williams (D-Dist. 9, Providence) has been appointed the chairwoman of the House Committee on Labor by Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston).
“I’d like to thank Speaker Mattiello for having faith in me to lead this vital committee. The House Labor Committee is important to every single Rhode Island worker and employer and I am eager to begin working with my committee colleagues to protect employees’ rights and to make sure Rhode Island’s workforce is treated fairly and with respect,” said Chairwoman Williams.
The House Committee on Labor deliberates legislation relating to workers’ compensation and labor laws.
Chairwoman Williams was also reappointed to the House Committee on Oversight. The House Oversight Committee reviews the operation and efficiency of various state departments and agencies, fulfilling the legislature’s oversight role under separation of powers. She was also appointed to the House Committee on Rules earlier this session. The function of the Rules Committee is to consider all matters relating to the rules and operations of the House of Representatives.
