MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee to review implementation of produce safety rule
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture is scheduled to meet Thursday to hear a report from the Department of Environmental Management and the Division of Agriculture on the agency’s implementation of the Produce Safety Rule of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
The meeting will take place Thursday, Oct. 11, at 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House.
The meeting will be an opportunity for farmers to learn about how implementation of the law affects them. The committee is expected to discuss who is subject to the stringent federal regulations, how much it will cost to comply and to correct misconceptions.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture is chaired by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown, New Shoreham).
