Rep. O’Brien applauds new North Providence school construction and repairs
STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence) is applauding the on-schedule construction of two new schools and much-needed school repairs in North Providence. The construction and school repairs were made possible through legislation (2016-H 8152) that was passed by the General Assembly in 2016. Representative O’Brien was a cosponsor of the legislation and it was introduced by Rep. Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence).
“I am proud of the residents of North Providence for voting to invest in our children’s education and so pleased that the construction of our two new elementary schools and the necessary repairs to our other schools are on schedule. When these projects are completed, the best students in the state will also have the best schools in the state,” said Representative O’Brien.
The legislation passed in 2016 authorized North Providence to issue up to $75 million in bonds for the purpose of constructing two new elementary schools and repairing and updating numerous school facilities.
“In 2016, when North Providence residents voted for this school bond, the end result was the bond passed with the highest percentage in North Providence history. That outcome demonstrates how much education means to the people of North Providence and our kids will benefit for many decades to come,” added Representative O’Brien.
