MEDIA ADVISORY: Rep. Azzinaro and Marines Corps to celebrate 242nd birthday in State Room on Friday
STATE HOUSE – Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly) and the United States Marine Corps will be celebrating the Marine Corps’ 242nd birthday at a gathering on Friday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the State Room at the State House.
A United States Marine Corps flag will be raised atop the Rhode Island State House. The annual flag-raising, the result of a Resolution adopted by the House of Representatives during the 2001 legislative session, is held to honor the men and women who served in the finest tradition of the Marine Corps.
Representative Azzinaro will host the event and he will be joined by Rep. Joseph S. Almeida (D-Dist. 12, Providence) and Rep. Justin K. Price (R-Dist. 39, Richmond, Exeter, Hopkinton), both former members of the Marine Corps.
The event will feature Col. Stephen McCartney, Chief of the Warwick Police Department, as the guest speaker.
