Rep. O’Brien joins Speaker Mattiello in urging governor to stop $250 DMV fee for lapsed vehicle inspections
STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence) is joining with House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston) to urge Governor Raimondo to stop the recently announced proposal to add a $250 fee to reinstate vehicle registrations that are suspended due to lapsed vehicle inspections.
“Most people do not let their inspections lapse because they want to break the law, but because they cannot afford the often expensive repairs needed to pass the inspection. By forcing these people to pay another $250 on top of the necessary repair costs, so many Rhode Islanders who are already struggling to get by on a daily basis will be further hurt. I cannot support this measure and I join Speaker Mattiello and calling for the governor to suspend this practice before it can begin in January,” said Representative O’Brien.
