Rep. O’Brien introduces bill to exempt wild life protection non-profit from taxation
|
 STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence) has introduced legislation (2017-H 6265) that would exempt the real and personal property of the nonprofit Sancutari, Inc. from taxation. Sancutari, Inc. was recently incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit in October of 2016 and its aim is to create a sustainable and stable network of care for Rhode Island’s wildlife population, with the goal of building an endowment to pay for the care of the animals and possibly a wildlife refuge in the future.
“It is no secret that Rhode Island possesses an incredibly diverse variety of wildlife within our state, and just like domestic animals, these creatures need care as well. This is an extremely noble organization that is attempting to preserve and care for our wildlife population through education, awareness, and most importantly, veterinary and environmental care,” said Representative O’Brien.
Cosponsors of the legislation are Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry, Warwick), Rep. Mia A. Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln), Rep. Gregg Amore (D-Dist. 65, East Providence), and Rep. Charlene M. Lima (D-Dist. 14, Cranston, Providence).
The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Municipal Government.
