Rep. Casimiro participated in NCLS health seminar over the weekend
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) participated in the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) Invitational Health Seminar for New Legislators this past weekend. The seminar was held in Cambridge, Massachusetts from April 28 through April 30. Representative Casimiro was invited to the seminar after being nominated by House of Representatives Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston).
“I’d like to thank Speaker Mattiello for nominating me to this informative and important seminar and the NCSL for hosting this gathering of new state legislators who are eager to tackle the challenges of public health. I made some good contacts and shared many ideas relating to the best practices of our country’s health care policies and I am looking forward to bringing back this knowledge to the State House and Rhode Island,” said Representative Casimiro.
NCSL invited 40 state legislators from across the country to participate in the seminar designed to engage new legislators in an interactive forum with their peers to discuss emerging health policy trends, strategies to improve health care efficiencies and effectiveness, to improve the public’s health, and to reduce health care costs for states.
The objectives of the seminar were to increase knowledge about state roles in health; to learn about strategies and policy options to improve people’s health and health systems; to network with state legislators from other states who have an interest in public health, and to share concerns, interests, and health policy successes in each state.
The NCSL is a bipartisan non-governmental organization established in 1975 to serve the members and staff of state legislatures of the United States (states, commonwealths, and territories). NCSL has three objectives: to improve the quality and effectiveness of state legislatures; to promote policy innovation and communication among state legislatures; and to ensure state legislatures a strong, cohesive voice in the federal system. All state legislators and staff members are automatically members of NCSL.
