Rep. Casimiro welcomes North Kingstown middle school student to House as ‘Representative for a Day’
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) welcomed Davisville Middle School student Samantha Ronci to the House floor to serve as an “honorary Representative for a Day”.
“Samantha showed outstanding leadership when she penned her essay to Governor Raimondo and I believe she may already be primed for a life of activism and politics,” said Representative Casimiro. “This remarkable young woman wrote a public piece, was criticized by adults for her views, and she is now in the RI House of Representatives addressing it. I see great things in Samantha’s future and I am thrilled that she and her family were able to join us in the House chamber today,” added Representative Casimiro.
Miss Ronci originally wrote to Governor Raimondo for the “Governor for a Day” contest and her entry went viral in North Kingstown, drawing both supporters and criticism for her views. In her essay, she said she supports Blessings in a Backpack, seatbelts on school buses, and she wants to address the problem of bullying in schools.
She was accompanied by her mother, Kara, her father, William, and her sister, Danielle, on the House floor.
