Rep. Coughlin voices support for PawSox study collaboration
STATE HOUSE – Rep. David A. Coughlin Jr. is voicing his support for the recently announced comprehensive study of McCoy Stadium to be conducted under the partnership of the PawSox organization, the City of Pawtucket, and the state of Rhode Island. Representative Coughlin was in attendance today at the press conference held at McCoy Stadium to announce the study.
“This study will be a critical component in evaluating how to keep the tremendous state asset we know as the PawSox at their longtime home of McCoy Stadium,” said Representative Coughlin (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket). “It’s important to me that the families of Rhode Island are able to carry on their tradition of spending their summer nights under the lights of McCoy stadium, watching the boys of summer play our national pastime. I am looking forward to being a part of this collaborative process to ensure that the residents of Rhode Island, and their interests, are represented and that future generations will have the opportunity to form the lasting memories at McCoy Stadium that so many of us now dearly treasure.”
At the press conference, it was announced that a RFP will be posted to conduct a study that will include an evaluation of the existing conditions of McCoy Stadium and the surrounding area, a survey of the state of the art and currents trends in professional ballparks, a comprehensive list of necessary repairs and improvements, and a final report detailing the cost and preferred design of the improved ballpark. The cost of the study will be evenly split by the PawSox organization, the City of Pawtucket, and the state of Rhode Island.
Also present at the press conference were Rep. Raymond H. Johnston Jr. (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket), Rep. Mary Duffy Messier (D-Dist. 62, Pawtucket), Rep. Carlos E. Tobon (D-Dist. 58, Pawtucket), Rep.
