5/19/2016 Rep. Coughlin issues statement of support for Pawtucket & Central Falls’ lawsuit over Memorial Hospital
STATE HOUSE – “I am in full support of the lawsuit initiated by Mayor Grebien and Mayor Diossa against Care New England, Memorial Hospital, the Department of Health, and the Attorney General’s Office regarding Care New England’s callous proposal to deprive the community of essential and critical health services,” said Rep. David A. Coughlin Jr. (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket).  “When Care New England was granted approval to acquire Memorial Hospital, it was under the condition that the surrounding community’s public health would not be negatively affected.  Three years later, this dangerous penny-pinching proposal will most certainly have a negative effect on Pawtucket’s mothers, on its children, on its patients in need of intensive care, and on its loyal and compassionate healthcare workers.  They are going back on their promise and that is unacceptable.  This proposal must be stopped for the sake of the our community and I stand with the mayors of Pawtucket and Central Falls in hopes of averting this public health disaster,” added Representative Coughlin.
