Rep. Azzinaro’s bill that appropriates $750,000 to Westerly Job Skills Center heard in committee
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Samuel A. Azzinaro’s legislation (2016-H 7345) that appropriates $750,000 to the Westerly Higher Education and Job Skills Center was heard before the House Committee on Finance last night.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our community and I am proud to help secure funding for this exciting project. It is going to bring new life to our downtown, while also serving as a training center for Westerly residents to learn new skills for good paying jobs,” said Representative Azzinaro.
The center was created through a partnership that includes CCRI and local business leaders. This 17-classroom facility will accommodate up to 1,000 students a year. The center will be dedicated to enrolling and training high-skill, high-wage workers in maritime pipefitting, maritime sheet metal, and carpentry. Electric Boat is working closely with CCRI to develop the curriculum.
