STATE HOUSE — Rep. Grace Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence), chairwoman of the Permanent Legislative Commission on Child Care (PLCCC), invites the public and media to a fifth anniversary celebration of Child Care Awareness Day on Thursday, April 14, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the State House.
Each year, the commission puts together a special program to highlight various organizations in the state that work to improve the lives of children, youth and families. Representative Diaz and Committee Vice Chairwoman Sen. Elizabeth A. Crowley (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket) will begin a short speaking program in the Rotunda of the State House at 3:30 p.m., which will also include various leaders in the child care industry.
After the program, Child Care Day will be recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives, where the Pledge of Allegiance will be delivered by children from the Children’s Workshop of Rhode Island. A resolution acknowledging the fifth anniversary of Child Care Day will be introduced by Representative Diaz.
This year’s program will also include a dancing performance from the students of the Grupo Arcoiris of Rhode Island. Children from local elementary schools and child care facilities are invited to indulge in a variety of healthy snacks, pizza and various activities set up at nearby tables. Child care providers, advocates, afterschool professionals, parents and members of the public are all welcome to attend.
