5/13/2015 Blazejewski elected deputy majority whip
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Christopher R. Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence) was unanimously elected deputy majority whip today by his Democratic colleagues in the House of Representatives.

As deputy majority whip, he will provide leadership in the House and help promote legislation that has been identified by House leaders as a priority.

“I am very grateful to Speaker Mattiello and the members of the House for their support today and throughout my years in the House,” said Deputy Majority Whip Blazejewski. “I’m looking forward to working with the leadership and my colleagues to advance legislation that will help Rhode Island make progress toward our goal of being a place where hardworking families can enjoy a secure life.”

Deputy Majority Whip Blazejewski was first elected to the House in November 2010, and serves as a member of both the House Judiciary Committee and the House Rules Committee.

In 2012, he was the sponsor of the first-in-the-nation Homeless Bill of Rights to be enacted into law. He was also the sponsor of the successful bill requiring “Super PACs” to disclose their major donors. In 2013, the Assembly enacted his Innovate RI Small Business program to assist Rhode Island small businesses in applying for federal funds targeting research and innovation and match some or all of the federal funds awarded.

He graduated from Harvard University in 2002 and received his Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law in 2005. An attorney, he works for Sherin and Lodgen, LLP. He is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. A lifelong Rhode Islander, he and his wife, Ami Gada, have a 1-year-old daughter, Aria.

Deputy Majority Whip Blazejewski was nominated in the Democratic caucus by Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket). The nomination was seconded by Rep. Katherine S. Kazarian (D-Dist. 63, East Providence).
